A Tropical Escape in Sri Lanka: Tea, Fruit, and Tranquillity
Our recent family adventure to Sri Lanka was nothing short of magical. Although macarons and vibrant kilay colours were nowhere to be seen, the energy of this stunning country was exactly what I needed to recharge. As a tea lover, Sri Lanka’s reputation as the land of tea made this trip particularly special.
We had the unique opportunity to stay in an old tea factory nestled in the hills. There, we not only explored the lush tea plantations but also got hands-on, plucking tea leaves ourselves. It was fascinating to learn about the long, intricate process that transforms these fresh leaves into the golden goodness we enjoy in our cups. From picking and withering to rolling, fermenting, and drying, every stage highlighted the art and dedication behind each sip of tea.
The tropical fruit in Sri Lanka is unlike any other. The pineapple, so sweet and juicy, felt like a taste of paradise. And the bananas—who knew there could be over 20 varieties? Each one came in different shapes, sizes, colours, and flavours, offering an endless array of new tastes to discover. One of the highlights was stopping by a roadside stall where we bought fresh mango, expertly cut and nestled into a guava leaf, seasoned with chilli salt. The combination of sweet, tangy, and spicy was simply unforgettable. Who knows—there might be a mango and chilli macaron on the horizon!
The people we encountered were as warm and vibrant as the landscape itself. From coastal beaches to misty mountain views, every corner of Sri Lanka revealed its diversity and charm. It was a chance to relax, explore, and soak in the rich culture and beauty surrounding us.
Now, with my spirit lifted and my energy replenished, I feel ready to dive into the festive season ahead. Here’s to more adventures, golden cups of tea, and finding inspiration in every corner of the world.
