The Behind the Scenes story of the By Josephine Baking Kits

We’re thrilled to share the story behind our Préparation Artisanale baking kits—a story that started with you, our wonderful customers and a desire to bring the joy of French patisserie right into your homes.

How It All Began
During the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, many of you got in touch, asking for a way to enjoy our signature macarons, cannelés, and other treats while at home. At the time, we faced a challenge: these delicate, handmade treats are tricky to post (!), so we could only offer our normal pick-up or Brunswick delivery options. But we knew a better solution was needed to make our products more widely available. That’s when the idea for our Préparation Artisanale baking kits was born—something you could receive at your doorstep and recreate in your own kitchen.

Recipe Development
Creating the kits involved months of testing and perfecting our recipes. We wanted to ensure that whether you were making our delicate macarons or rich cannelés, you’d get the same results as if you were baking them in our kitchen.  The recipes and methods were adjusted for your home kitchens. Smaller ingredient quantities have not compromised the authentic taste and texture. The feedback from our early testers (thank you!) helped us refine the instructions, ensuring that you can experience the magic of French baking in the comfort of your own home.

The First Release
Finally, after a long period of development, testing and redesign, our Préparation Artisanale baking kits made their debut at the Little Design Market. It was down-to-the-line, with everything  finished the night before. The response was amazing! Feedback from the community continues to be overwhelmingly positive, with many people loving the idea of recreating their favourite French treats at home. It was such a proud and rewarding moment for us to see the kits so well received.
Following the launch, we refined the packaging, added more recipe tips, and completed a professional photo shoot to update the By Josephine online store. We’re thrilled with the end result and so proud to see how much joy these kits continue to bring to our community.

Our First Stockists!
We’re also so excited to share the news that we have our first stockists! A big merci to Small Axe Deli in Brunswick (and a heartfelt thank you to Kirsty for your ongoing support) as well as Edwards Providore in Kennington near Bendigo, our first regional stockist. Plus, our kits are now available in beautiful The Leaf Store all 3 stores - Armadale, Hawthorn & Elwood, Le Petit Marché Prahran, Obelix & Co North Fitzroy, Monsieur Pierre Kyneton, Bertoncello Brunswick, and more to be announced soon.

With the gift season so close, our Préparation Artisanale baking kits make the perfect present for friends and family. Whether it’s for a beginner learning to bake with our Madeleine kit, the patient baker mastering Cannelés, or someone ready to tackle the art of macarons, these kits offer a fun and delicious experience for all. They’re not just a gift but a shared moment of joy in the kitchen—a truly thoughtful option for the holidays!

We’ve also had wonderful feedback about how these kits are great for all level bakers, from beginners starting with Madeleines, to patient bakers enjoying the challenge of Cannelés, and adventurous bakers trying out Macarons. We’ve even received some lovely photos of kids baking macarons, with a little help—and the results have been fantastic!

Plus, we’ll be in our local hood for your last minute Christmas supplies - Barkly Square in Brunswick on 21, 22 and 23 December.
